Ghana Armed Forces: Medical Conditions That May Lead to Disqualification

 

Applicants undergoing medical screening for enlistment, armed forces you may be disqualified if diagnosed with any of the following health conditions:


1. Vision and Eye Conditions

  • Severe myopia (short-sightedness) or hyperopia (long-sightedness)
  • Color blindness
  • Serious eye diseases or visual impairments that cannot be corrected with lenses


2. Hearing Impairments

  • Significant hearing loss
  • Recurrent or chronic ear infections


3. Cardiovascular Conditions

  • Heart murmurs or structural heart defects
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) or other serious blood disorders


4. Respiratory Conditions

  • Asthma (especially recent or uncontrolled episodes)
  • Chronic bronchitis or other persistent lung diseases


5. Musculoskeletal Disorders

  • Improperly healed fractures
  • Chronic back pain or spinal instability
  • Serious knee injuries (e.g. ACL tears, cartilage damage)
  • Severe spinal deformities such as advanced scoliosis


6. Dermatological Conditions

  • Chronic eczema
  • Severe or cystic acne
  • Recurrent skin infections

7. Neurological and Mental Health Disorders
  • Epilepsy or history of seizures
  • Diagnosed psychiatric or psychological disorders affecting functionality

8. Infectious or Chronic Diseases
  • Hepatitis B (depending on stage and medical clearance)
  • Active tuberculosis (TB)
  • Diabetes (especially if insulin-dependent or uncontrolled)

9. Weight-Related Conditions
  • Obesity (BMI significantly above healthy range)
  • Underweight (BMI significantly below normal limits)

10. Substance Abuse Issues
  • Drug dependency or history of substance abuse
  • Alcohol addiction
