Presidency Responds to Petition on 2026 Teacher Recruitment Exercise

The Office of the President has officially responded to a petition concerning the ongoing 2026 teacher recruitment exercise in Ghana, following growing concerns raised by teacher trainees and stakeholders across the country.

In a letter dated 21st April 2026 and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Presidency acknowledged receipt of a petition submitted by Mr. Jephthah Kwame Sefah, former President of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), together with other co-signatories.

The petition reportedly called for an immediate halt to the ongoing recruitment process while urgent concerns surrounding the exercise are addressed.

According to the letter, the petition was forwarded to the Ministry of Education for review and the necessary action. The Presidency directed the Education Ministry to carefully examine the issues raised and respond appropriately.

The communication further conveyed the assurances of President John Dramani Mahama regarding the matter, signaling that government authorities are taking the concerns seriously.

The development has sparked conversations among applicants and education stakeholders, many of whom have been closely monitoring the recruitment process since applications opened earlier this year.

While the Presidency’s letter does not confirm a suspension of the recruitment exercise, it indicates that the concerns raised by petitioners are now under official consideration by the Ministry of Education.
