The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination organized by the National Teaching Council is an important examination for graduates who want to become professional teachers in Ghana. The council has officially announced the registration period and examination dates for the 2026 GTLE 1.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to take note of the key dates and requirements to avoid missing the opportunity to sit for the examination.

  • Registration Opening Date: 16th February 2026
  • Registration Deadline: 10th March 2026
  • Examination Date: 23rd – 25th March 2026

Candidates must ensure they complete their registration before the 10th March 2026 deadline, as late registration may not be accepted once the portal closes.

Eligibility for the Examination

To qualify to write the 2026 GTLE, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Possess a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

Candidates with foreign qualifications must provide an evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

The indexing fee for new candidates is GHC 50.00, while candidates who are re-sitting the examination are not required to go through the indexing process again.

Examination Fees

The examination fees depend on whether a candidate is writing for the first time or re-sitting papers:

Fresh Candidates: GHC 450.00 for three papers

Re-sit (One Paper): GHC 150.00

Re-sit (Two Papers): GHC 210.00
