Ghana Immigration Service Announces New Fees and Charges Effective 2nd March 2026
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has officially announced new fees and charges for its services, which will take effect from 2nd March 2026.
The revised charges were approved under Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2512 (2025) and apply to residence permits, work permits, visa services, penalties, re-entry permits, and other immigration-related services in Ghana.
According to the official notice, all applications submitted on or after 2nd March 2026 will be processed under the new fee structure.
Categories Affected by the New Fees
The updated fee schedule applies to three main groups:
- Holders of foreign passports with Ghanaian parentage or spouse
- ECOWAS nationals
- Other foreign nationals
- Each category has specific charges depending on the type of service requested.
Key Changes in Residence and Work Permit Fees
Under the new structure:
1. Student Residence Permit
- GH₵129 (Foreign passport holders with Ghanaian parentage or spouse)
- GH₵194 (ECOWAS nationals)
- GH₵259 (Other nationals)
- $194 (Foreign passport with Ghanaian ties)
- $647 (ECOWAS nationals)
- $1,293 (Other nationals)
- $194 to $647 depending on nationality classification
The schedule also outlines fees for dependents, shareholders, and free zone residence permits.
4. Visa and Entry Fees
The updated visa-related charges include:
- Emergency Visa – $200
- Visa on Arrival (Premium Express Digital Portal) – $300
- E-Visa – $260
- Concessionary Visa – Approximately $97–$100
Travelers are advised to confirm applicable fees before arrival to avoid delays at entry points.
5. Re-Entry Permits
Foreign residents in Ghana who wish to travel and return will pay:
- Single Re-Entry Permit – $65 to $100
- Multiple Re-Entry Permit – $129 to $194
- Charges vary based on nationality category.
6. Penalties and Compliance Charges
The new schedule maintains strict penalties for immigration violations:
- Expired Resident Permit (monthly penalty) – GH₵39 to GH₵300
- Expired Visitor Permit – GH₵52 to GH₵300
- Illegal Employment (Company) – $2,500
- Illegal Employment (Individual) – Up to $1,000
- Non-submission of required immigration returns also attracts penalties.
7. Other Important Charges
Additional services listed in the new schedule include:
- Alien Identity Card – GH₵39 / $40
- Permanent Resident Form – GH₵65
- Right of Abode – GH₵1,940 to GH₵3,879
- Transit Permit – $65
- Document Verification – $25
These charges apply to specific administrative and residency services.
