Parliament Approves New NIA Fees and Charges Effective February 2, 2026

 

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced new fees and charges for its services following parliamentary approval. The revised fees will take effect from Monday, 2nd February 2026, and apply across different service categories, including District Offices, Premium Centres, and the Foreign Identification Management System (FIMS).


According to the NIA, the adjustment is aimed at ensuring the continued delivery of secure, efficient, and accessible identity services nationwide.


Fees at District Offices

At NIA District Offices, services remain largely affordable, with some categories still offered free of charge:

  • First-time registration (below 25 years): Free


First-time registration (25 years and above): GHS 30 (processing fee)


  • Card replacement: GHS 200
  • Record update only: Free
  • Record update with card replacement: GHS 200
  • Nationality update: GHS 200
  • Card renewal: GHS 150
  • Card transfer services (excluding courier): GHS 75


Fees at Premium Centres

Applicants who prefer faster and more convenient services at NIA Premium Centres will pay higher fees:


  • First-time registration: GHS 410
  • Card replacement: GHS 520
  • Record update with card replacement: GHS 410
  • Nationality record update: GHS 410
  • Card renewal: GHS 410
  • Record update only: GHS 165


Fees for Foreign Nationals (FIMS)

Foreign nationals accessing services under the Foreign Identification Management System (FIMS) will be charged in US dollars:


  • First-time registration: USD 120
  • Annual card renewal: USD 78


Multiple-year renewal (minimum two years): USD 75 per year


  • Card replacement: USD 78
  • Nationality update: USD 120
  • Record update with card replacement: USD 70
  • Record update only: Free


Payment Channels


All fees and charges can be paid through:

  • Any CalBank branch
  • The USSD code *771#
  • The CalBank mobile app


NIA’s Assurance to the Public

The NIA emphasized that the fee adjustments, approved by Parliament, are necessary to sustain the authority’s operations and enhance service delivery across the country.


Members of the public are encouraged to take note of the new fees ahead of their effective date on February 2, 2026, to avoid any inconvenience.
