Ghanaian international footballer Felix Afena-Gyan, currently a striker for Turkish club Amedspor, has once again demonstrated his commitment to giving back to his roots by organizing a football tournament and donating educational and sporting materials to his former school, Berekum Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC Berekum).
Afena-Gyan, who is currently on a season-long loan at Amedspor from Italian Serie B side US Cremonese, rose to prominence through his impressive performances both at club and international levels. The talented forward was first invited to the Ghana Black Stars in 2021 and later made his senior national team debut in 2022. He played a significant role in Ghana's qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and also scored his first international goal for the national team.
The former PRESEC Berekum student completed his senior high school education in 2019 before embarking on a successful football career abroad. Several years after leaving school, Afena-Gyan returned to his alma mater to reconnect with the institution that helped shape his journey.
As part of his visit, he collaborated with members of the 2019 alumni batch and the school authorities to organize an exciting soccer tournament for students. The event brought together students, staff, and old students in a celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and inspiration.
Beyond the tournament, Afena-Gyan made generous donations to the school, including exercise books, footballs, and other educational and sporting materials aimed at supporting students in both academics and sports.
The management, staff, and students of Berekum Presbyterian Senior High School expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Black Stars striker for remembering the school that nurtured him. They commended his generosity, describing him as a role model whose achievements and humility continue to inspire the younger generation.
The school also offered prayers and blessings for Afena-Gyan, wishing him continued success in his football career and personal life.
His gesture serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of giving back to one's community and supporting the next generation of leaders and talents.
