The Ghana Education Service (GES) has clarified the qualification requirements for the 2026 teacher recruitment exercise, addressing concerns about whether diploma holders are eligible to apply.
According to the official recruitment guidelines, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or possess a relevant Bachelor’s Degree with a professional education qualification. These professional qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), or a Diploma in Basic Education.
This means that Diploma in Basic Education holders are eligible to apply for the 2026 teacher recruitment, provided they meet all other requirements outlined by the Ghana Education Service.
The recruitment exercise aims to attract qualified and competent teachers to strengthen teaching and learning across schools in Ghana, particularly in underserved and deprived communities.
In addition to the academic qualifications, applicants must also:
- Have completed National Service
- Be in good standing with the National Teaching Council (NTC)
- Possess a valid teaching license
- Demonstrate strong communication and classroom management skills
- Be willing to accept postings to deprived districts
Prospective applicants who meet these requirements are encouraged to submit their applications before the recruitment deadline.
